Hazard Mitigation Plan

Updated November 17, 2022

Overview

As mandated by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the City of Cerritos is currently in the process of updating its Hazard Mitigation Plan (HMP). The HMP was last updated in 2016 and previously in 2004. The HMP is a Federally mandated hazard mitigation document, which provides the framework for the ongoing identification and implementation of hazard mitigation strategies developed in the City. The overall goal of the Hazard Mitigation Plan is to reduce the potential for damage to critical assets from natural and man-made hazards.

As part of the HMP Draft public review process, a public hearing was held on October 13, 2022 at the City Council’s regular meeting.

The HMP Draft has been submitted to the State of California Office of Emergency Services and the Federal Emergency Management Agency for review and approval. Once the HMP is approved by FEMA, staff will take the finalized plan to the City Council for formal adoption by resolution.
